The Timeless Power of Gratitude

As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving 2018, I would like to share some thoughts from Thanksgiving past as well as the terrific wisdom and perspective from perennial sales advisor Geoffrey James. In a now-classic post, James had this to say about gratitude:

“I’m utterly convinced that the key to lifelong success is the regular exercise of a single emotional muscle: gratitude.

People who approach life with a sense of gratitude are constantly aware of what’s wonderful in their life. Because they enjoy the fruits of their successes, they seek out more success. And when things don’t go as planned, people who are grateful can put failure into perspective.

By contrast, people who lack gratitude are never truly happy. If they succeed at a task, they don’t enjoy it. For them, a string of successes is like trying to fill a bucket with a huge leak in the bottom. And failure invariably makes them bitter, angry, and discouraged.

Therefore, if you want to be successful, you need to feel more gratitude. Fortunately, gratitude, like most emotions, is like a muscle: The more you use it, the stronger and more resilient it becomes.” Read James’ entire blog here‚ https://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/advisor/true-secret-to-success–it-s-not-what-you-think-.html

These insights from James first appeared in 2012, but their relevance is timeless. Incorporating gratitude into your daily life becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you focus on the positive, more positive outcomes tend to occur. Considering the disasters and challenges endured in our nation and around the world, it shouldn’t be difficult for any of us to view our own circumstances with deep appreciation for what we have and the many blessings in our lives. At Carew International, we are profoundly grateful for our valued customers who place their trust in our team, and the thousands of professionals with whom we have the privilege of working in the classroom throughout the year.

When you leave the Thanksgiving table this year, take those warm feelings of gratitude with you, back to work, to your customers, your staff and your peers. This simple act may be the best way to jumpstart a successful 2019.Happy Thanksgiving!
